Evan keeping his party this year ! Some of you may remember Evans first Red and White birthday bash that he kept a few years ago in Bloomfield.

He had Karkell from Minneapolis in the building, Dynamq still lived in Pittsburgh, Faya Ras and Curtain Clat were still a part of Vybz Machine, Dutty Vybz was still dancing, Jukie Blacks was in the building.

The line up this year is different: Vybz Machine is still there (but it's Springer and Undateka) we still have female dancers (but this time around it's DHQ Skittelz and DHQ Rhythm Piink)

The guest DJ is DJ Redman from Fantasy Sound based in Seattle Washington.

To spice things up Evan is raffling away:

2. A COACH PURSE
3. A BOTTLE OF JAMAICAN RUM

The buzz about the event is crazy, tickets are going like hot cakes for both the event and the raffle.

From Africa to Pittsburgh back to Africa Nigerian Recording Artist Zara is on the rise

Born Margaret Mary Joseph on July 30th, Nigerian music superstar ZARA is creating a buzz around the music scene both home and abroad. Zara as she is popularly known by fans across the globe has a uniqueness that sets her apart from most Nigerian female emcees. Her smooth entrapping voice and the powerful delivery of her jaw dropping lyrics in songs like “Mommi Mi” and “The Flyest” which are both singles in her upcoming album have captured the attention of fans and left them wanting more.

"She has a special place in our heart," according on of the Dat Net Staff , " Lotta people don't know that Zara was a Pittsburgh resident for several years while she attended the University of Pittsburgh. And was a celebrity back then on the Pittsburgh reggae scene."

Zara considers her style a mixture of dancehall and afro hip hop, with influences like Onyeka Onwenu, Shina Peters and King Sunny Ade (KSA); Zara effectively delivers her lyrics with a cultural twist. Independent of anything the Nigerian entertainment industry has ever seen, Zara also appreciates and is influenced by the creativity of female artists like Gwen Stefani, Madonna, and Angelique Kidjo.

Her bloom into the Nigerian music industry in 2006 was accompanied by collaborations with the likes of Eldee the Don, Keno Kenett, Zaina and a Dj Dee Money production of the infamous track “show yourself” with Ezzie B, Naira and Nyja. Performing and collaborating with a diverse pool of artists solidifies Zara’s versatility and authenticates her “Zwagger,” making her a talent to reckon with.

Zara is currently being managed under Toni Payne concepts, and according to her, she has no creative boundaries as she continues to grow as Naija’s flyest femcee.

Zara's most recent single WAIT FOR U (ABOKO KU) is already making waves in various markets internationally. Its gives out great pleasure to introduce the song to the pittsburghreggae.net community.

FAYA RAS says " Mi nah say Vybz Machine no more!!! Killaface mi ting deh this year!!!"

Reggae fans and patrons in Pittsburgh are very familiar with Vybz machine Intl, one of the more consistent soundsystems from the area. The sound consisted of Faya Ras (arguably the best MC in Pittsburgh, Unda Teka (now being known as a music engineer) and Fudgie Springer. Together this group has performed at some of the hypest parties in Pittsburgh and various cities worldwide and Vybz Machine's yearly anniversay party is one of the biggest annual reggae events in Western Pennsylvania.

Another big annual event is Nicky's bday bash which this year was held at Taboo Night Club ,8023 Bennet St, Pittsburgh [check out the pics of the event at this link http://pittsburghreggae.net/pics/thumbnails.php?album=5] This year's dance featured DJ Hypeness from Brooklyn touted as the #1 female dancehall DJ in the US and also on the bill was Vybz machine, Gangsta Shack and DJ Gio from Dynamq Sounds and each performer for the club which was filled to capacity by 3:am.

The biggest surprise of the night was when Faya took the mic, during Gangsta Shack's set and announced that nothing has changed he is the same Faya Ras but this year he will no longer say Vybz Machine "A Killaface him say now!!!"

Pittsburghreggae.net has been unable to get a statement from Faya Ras but when Fudgie Springer was asked about the announcement this is what he had to say,

"Mi go to Undateka right a way and ask if him knew about this and he didn't, I haven't had a number for Faya Ras for over a year but my number has never changed," said Springer.
He went on to say, "Obviously the man have a problem with me, what the problem is I am unsure but mi wish him all the best with Killa Face sound, I ,however, thought that how I found out was direspectful, Ras and Lionface have my number and/or Unda Teka number, but life goes on, like Mavado say 'We no change fi no reason, we anno mango inna apple season' Big up di people dem who don't switch pon yu friends"
